Nitric acid is the colorless, highly corrosive liquid, it is also known by the name aqua fortis. The molecular (chemical) formula for Nitric Acid is HNO3 with molecular weight 46.03 and with a density of 1.522 g/cubic cm. In pure form it is colorless and in older form it form brownish yellow solution due to decomposition into water and oxides of nitrogen. Nitric acid is prepared from the reaction of ammonia and highly used in the making fertilizers as it makes the plant grow more rapidly. Nitric acid is called furious acid at concentration above 90% it gives red and white smoke on contact with air. It boiling point is 86 degree Celsius and melts at -42 degree Celsius. As a highly reactive oxidizing agent, it comes with specific gravity of 1.41 and pH of 1.0 (0.1M solution).
